BAYEKITSO Institute is an NPO dedicated to demystifying the Postgraduate Journey through storytelling and providing advisory support services people planning to pursue or already pursuing the post graduate studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is fast becoming common place. Yet fewer people are still getting this highest level of academic achievement. The journey to achieving the proverbial Ph.D had been said to be dreadful and still obscure to many, more so about it\u2019s worth. Some go as far as saying it is a process reserved to satisfy academic egos. There are many reasons why people study for Masters and PhDs. For some it is enhance their career prospects in Academia and research, to seek high paying jobs (good luck with that), for personal fulfillment and for some it is because there was nothing else to do, and the list may go on. Whatever the reasons are for obtaining higher degrees, there appear to be different experiences when it comes to doing a PhD and its worth. Argument against the Ph.D suggest that it is mentally, physically, intellectual and emotionally draining, often with little material benefit commensurable to the time and effort. Others even say that the Ph.D process is outmoded as it has not change in the past 100 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet, proponents of the Ph.D contend that, without anything at all, a Ph.D accords one respect and good standing in society. Other benefits include the contribution to knowledge and the knowledge economy, career possibilities in academia, and other research intensive organisations, and the development of high level transferable skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
